Take a Key and Lock Her Up!

Last week, during one of his walks through the house, Steve noticed that the window frame in our basement storage room wasn't seated securely in the opening. He said he thought it was strange but figured someone was working on it.

Someone was. On Monday, April 3rd, the wall texture contractor pointed out to us that the window in the storage room was missing! Completely gone. Not just the sliding part of the window, the whole framed window.

An April Fools prank? If so, I hope they will return it undamaged.

We notified our builder who was perplexed. He had been concerned about the safety of the doors and windows when they were delivered and were stacked inside the very open building but no one touched them. But now, when the windows were snugly installed, someone came in and worked it loose and stole it. One window. 

We have construction insurance but it only covers items in the house if the doors and windows are closed and the doors locked. Jeff said he would get some temporary locks for the doors as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I visited the apartment adjacent to the side of the house with the stolen window opening. I met several of the young men who lived in the upper level and told them about our loss (we also glanced around at their windows) and asked them to keep an eye out for suspicious action next door. They said they would and that they would also ask the neighbors in the apartment below them to watch out as well.
