Landscaping Crew

We moved into our house over Memorial Day weekend and the landscapers began work the week of Labor Day. Not having a yard to water all summer has its merits but we look forward to the finished look a green yard will add to the houses.

Jeff and Brian Huntsman are the landscapers we contracted with. It has been only slightly confusing to keep straight whom it is we are talking about: Jeff and Bryan Adams, our General Contractors, or Jeff and Brian Huntsman.

They arranged for Blue Stakes markings and then came out to walk the plan the day before I left town for a 12 day trip to Austin, Texas (as close to a hurricane as I want to be).


The sprinklers layout, the flagstone path, and curbing lines were planned and I was out the door.










When I arrived back in town, the flagstone had been laid, irrigation lines were buried, fence posts stood ready to enclose the rental unit patio and obscure our trash cans, new topsoil lay smoothed, and curbing lines were painted for final approval.


After walking it this morning, we tweaked the lines between lawn and planting beds in a few places and a couple hours later, the guys who put down the concrete curbing arrived.


Worker 1: Probably the boss,
pulled the machine that extruded the concrete along the line as he walked backwards.
Worker 2: Kept the machine fed with wet concrete.
Worker 3: Smoothed the surface, applying water from a watering can when needed.
Worker 4: Drew slices in the top at about 18-30 inch intervals. These lines will become controlled crack lines as the concrete expands and contracts--or maybe as they get stepped on or the ground compacts.

The planting beds are adjacent the building and fences so that mowing the lawn is easier. It will also help to prevent sprinkler stains on the stucco and keep excess water away from the foundations.

The posts for our south face shade sail are lying on the back patio. They should be erected before the sod goes down.
